SEVEN WORDS - Wipe The Slate Clean (Maxi-CD)
"Wipe The Slate Clean" is
taken from the second album "Fall From Grace" by the
UK band "Seven Words". It comes with a "radio edit",
"monopoly mix" and "factory mix". While the "radio
edit" sounds a little bit sluggish the two remixes
surprise with danceable beats which are full of drive.
A healthy dose of techno-elements transforms this
otherwise slightly boring song into an exciting dance
number.
Like the album, this single includes additional
bonus-material within a CD-ROM section. There you will
find the promotional video, lyrics, photos and
wallpapers, screensavers and 2 free and exclusive MP3
tracks. The two excellent propellant remixes and the
bonus material on this CD make it a very valuable
release which is a must for every fan of electronic
music.

SOVIET - We Are Eyes, We Are Builders
"We Are Eyes, We Are
Builders" was released in early 2001 by the New York
band "SOVIET". "We Are Eyes, We Are Builders" melds
early eighties sound with modern synths and guitar
playing. The songs are based on minimalist
structures and sound pleasant, fresh and melodic.
The singers' voice reminds me of David Ruffy of
Aztec Camera which absolutely fits within the
tranquil melodies. The songs are always kept as
simple as possible but the sometime playful and
intelligent melodies are able to convey a lot of
emotion. Those emotions get enforced by the
warmth and smooth singing of Keith Ruggiero. The
very simple and melodic songs on "We Are Eyes, We
Are Builders" may not be suitable for the dance
floor, but they represent an exciting trip back to
the early eighties without losing the future view.
Great music to relax and enjoy the little pleasures
of life.

SPACE MARCH - Space March
"Space March" is the solo
project of Craig Simmons of "ElectroSquad" which
represents great pop music. As the "ElectroSquad"
releases were very heavily 80s influenced, Craig tries
to emphasize the crazy 60s on "Space March".
Nevertheless Craig really has ambitions to create pure
pop music that fits with the compositions by Ian
Broudie of "The Lightning Seeds". Craig made use of
real instruments and kept synths discreetly in the
background for decorating and completing the
compositions. The CD was mastered by Brian Hazard
(11th Records, Color Theory) and delivers high quality
recordings with low noise and spatial stereo. In spite
of Craig's musical nearness to Ian Broudie he was able
to create a very amusing and creative album that
seduces the listeners back to the psychedelic 60s.
I hope Craig will never lose his MOJO as Austin Powers
did J.
