KAJ - In Your Mind

'In your Mind' sounds dark and melancholic and exits of awkward melodies. When listening to the songs I sometimes had the feeling that KAJ lost the thread during their songs. Some of the songs (f.e. 'Regret') have an oriental touch which does not fit with melodies Europeans are used to hear. What I miss most is a kick that keeps the songs on the trot and make it more danceable and catchy. On the whole the album sounds to boring. There exist some interesting ideas but the execution failed.

THE NINE - Dreamland

Power was the motto of the second album of 'The Nine'. 'Dreamland' sounds powerful, aggressive and in comparison with the debut 'Native Anger' they made a huge step forward. What I like most are the catchy and memorable refrains which are in contrast to the heavy synths, guitar-samples and drums. I was a little bit surprised as I found a DancePoP track - yes, it is 'Breeze' - on this album.

I have to say that this album surpasses my expectations on the whole, but it might be a little heavy for some fans of classic SynthPoP.

BLUE OCTOBER - Preaching Lies To The Righteous

This second album of 'Blue October' with the new vocalist continues where the last album ended. A new vocalist but the style of the singing is the same. The album consists of classic SynthPoP, Erasure-style, with melancholic singing. I sometimes had problems to understand the lyrics, as the singing got overloaded by the music. The sound engineer did not make a god job as the music sounds too 'compressed', voices are too much in the background.

On the whole I like this album but the bad engineering reduces the fun of listening to a sufficient minimum.

INFORMATION SOCIETY - Greatest Hits

This album is a collection of Information Society's best songs. Some of the songs were remixed (f.e. What's On Your Mind - pure energy 2001 mix). It also includes a cover-version of ABBA's Lay All Your Love On Me (metal mix). On the whole this album represents original eighties SynthPoP that is absolute suited for dancing and party feeling. Also the remixes do not alienate the originals, so the original 'eighties feeling' got maintained. One of my favorites are 'What's On Your Mind' and 'How Long'.

I have no doubts to recommend this album to all people who like original Eighties SynthPoP.
