SynthPoP For The Masses
TOC 2000 (1/9, 2/9, 3/9, 4/9, 5/9, 6/9, 7/9, 8/9, 9/9)

x.act - 3

In 1996 x.act brought out their first album 'no matter'. 3 is their second album that can convince with modern German Synthpop and that sounds more melodic as the debut album. I have to mention that the singer has improved his singing which was only moderate on 'no matter'.

My favorite song is "eagle in a cage" which is very danceable and sounds up to date because of some techno drum-runs.

On the whole I like this release as x.act was able to built in some new ideas  and shown me their creativity in composing SynthPoP.

ECHO IMAGE - Need To be Proud (Maxi-Single)

I first got in touch with Echo Image when I received a demo of the cover version  "Breath Of Live". As this song was well done I was really anxious to receive this Maxi-Single. Now here it is. With "Need To Be Proud" Echo Image shows us how to make perfect classic SynthPoP that does not have to sound old-fashioned.In all the Single includes 4 Versions of "Need To Be Proud" (remixed by IRIS, Count To Infinity) which differ from each other. After all the B-Side song "Good Intentions" rounds off the very good general impression.

CHINESE DETECTIVES - Are Kisses Out Of Fashion?

The Chinese Detectives are well know for producing excellent cover versions of eighties music. All songs on this album were hits of the eighties (Hit That Perfect Beat, Situation, Johnny & Mary, ...) which they tried to freshen up with absolute danceable melodies and well done synth arrangements. If you get to like the dominate voice of the female singer, I am sure you will like the whole album. My absolute favorite is Robert Palmers "Johnny & Marry" which they understand to reproduce in a very danceable version.

I have to recommend this album for all lovers of the eighties who want to get in touch which electronic music!

Dark Distant Spaces - Fashion (Single E.P.)

Releases by Dark Distant Spaces are very rare, the more I was happy that they released this Single E.P that consists of about 5 different remixes and 3 reworked songs. Alone the song "Guitar Man" is it worth to buy this release as it tells us a story about the synthesizer-love of the singer. At the end of the song he sings ... electronic drums kick the beat of my life ... - GREAT!!!

The Remixes are well done and absolutely suitable for dance floor. Well I hope that they are going to release more songs in future!!!
